                                         Located
near the Lovre is St. Germain L'Auxerrols
Church. It is famous because in 1572,
hundreds of Huguenots showed up at the
church for a wedding. While they were
there, supporters of royalty showed up
and killed everybody inside. The church
is named after Saint Germanus of Auxerre
who lived from AD 378 CE to 448 CE. He
was a former Roman general who became
bishop of Auxerre in Gaul. Records are
fuzzy, but he is basically credited for
combat the Pelagian heresy threat and
satisfy the Pope that the British church
would not break away from the Augustinian
teachings of divine grace. He died in
Ravenna while petitioning the Roman government
for leniency for the citizens of Armorica. |
