Located
in southeast Europe, Greece is considered
to be one of the most cultured countries
of all time. With plenty of access to
the Aegean Sea and the Ionian and Mediterranean
Seas Greece is a beautiful place to go
for vacation, with lots of swimming, boating,
and other maritime recreation. It is perhaps
no wonder that Greece has a long history
of not only living with the sea, but also
sailing all over the continent. Many early
Greeks were explorers, and went all over
looking for new places to trade, new information,
and new places to live.
Greece is thought of as the “Cradle
of Western Civilization”. This basically
means that many of the ideas and sociological
concepts that so called “Western
Civilization” were eventually used
as a keystone for the building of other
societies. Greece has a long and rich
history during which it spread its influence
over three continents. It was home to
philosophers such as Plato and Aristotle.
It is also widely recognized as the home
of the predecessor of scientific thought.

Greece
also has a strong military history. Under
the direction of strong kings Greece came
to be the center of ancient Europe around
800 BCE. Greece established colonies,
trade routes, and cities all over the
continent. It would last for a respectable
time, but eventually Greece would decline
and be swallowed up by the Romans in 168
BCE. Greece would continue to develop
as a culture, but would never again hold
the reigns.
Today Greece is a growing country with
a population of over 10.5 million people.
Is has a bustling tourist industry. It
has seen more than its fair share of war
in the last 3000 years, and looks forward
to a future of peace. As an example the
Greek people hosted the 2004 Olympics,
which was a really important even considering
Greece is the founding nation of said
event.
